Diseases of Ageing
About our Research
Researchers at the University of Glasgow are bringing together their diverse knowledge and expertise to better understand the common diseases of ageing. Although the incidence of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and dementia increase strikingly during late life, the reasons for this are poorly understood. In large part, research on these diseases has focused on late-stage disease and/or disease pathogenesis not specifically linked to ageing, likely making cures more challenging. As researchers interested in the biology of ageing, we take the view that ultimately beating these diseases will depend on understanding them as diseases of ageing, thereby facilitating risk assessment, early detection and chemoprevention strategies.
